Notre Dame High School is an all girls Catholic, college preparatory located in the heart of Downtown San Jose, California. The mission of Notre Dame is dedicated to preparing young women for ‘what they need to know for life’. Notre Dame is an institution that has been a safe space for many students that have journeyed through its doors. As an alum myself, revisiting the spaces that once were the center of my life felt like a pilgrimage of self understanding. I became enthralled with the details of the campus, with the cracks and edges and made this institution. The cracks, chips, symbols and statuary that now feel like a metaphor for what Notre Dame was and is. Notre Dame is an institution that seeks to empower. Notre Dame is also an institution with a lot of cracks in the execution of their cultural mission. Notre Dame has a lot to build upon and a lot to learn but the foundation is there, the foundation and legacy that has propelled the desire and need for peace and justice that has encompassed a life of passion and justice in its students for over 160 years. What will it mean for students years and decades from now to be a part of this institution?
