This project was inspired by my recent experiences going through a depressive episode. Being
outside and observing nature is one of the few things that kept me going. It allowed me to stop
and contextualize my feelings and provided a sense of comfort. I identified with the struggle of
the living things around me. It was comforting to know that even with all of the pressures of
living in the times that we do that life goes on. Nature keeps going; trees grow new leaves and
flowers continue to grow despite the fact that there is no escaping the end. And I came to
realize that there is beauty in that struggle, the fight to live on against impossible odds helped
me realize that the present moment is just that, a moment. And that although the future holds
uncertainty it also holds possibilities for growth and renewal.
